Originally commissioned in 2012 as part of a Children’s Opera to celebrate the London Olympics. Pete was asked to write five songs to represent past, present and future Olympic hosts and this was written for Australia… a settler country with a hugely diverse population.
The idea, however came from writings of the great Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, who likened an immigrant society to a wonderful tapestry. On one side it is shining and beautiful and yet, on the other, a mass of tangled threads – evidence of that necessary untidiness that binds the whole.
"Come with me, you can be,
A part of our community,
Come and join the Tapestry of Life"
Performed by the Merton Music Foundation Choir, 2013.
